Online materials

Most of my online course material is on the internal pages of the Electronics Department at York.

Students in Data Structures and Algorithms can find soft copies of the programs and links to supporting material here . On the same page, Numerical Methods students can find the Nelder-Mead simplex implementation and Rosenbrock function animation discussed in class.

Students in Media ECAD will find the CLIP material here but the course-specific stuff is not included on this open website.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Thinking of engineering?

Engineers use science and mathematics to solve practical problems. They design computers, airplanes, bridges, satellites, sewers, transit systems, robots, medical scanners, mobile phones, power generators, cars, oilrigs and video cameras. They work in industry, government and business as researchers, designers, managers and entrepreneurs.

But it's not what you do it's how you do it:

Engineers stand with one foot in the problem and one foot in the technology. They have to understand both. They ask "How will I know I have succeeded?" at the start, and rely on careful measurement to validate their design at the end. They use, adapt and upturn existing ideas, imagine and realize completely new ones, all in the quest for a good solution -- not just something that works, but something that works well.

An engineering education equips you for specialized work in one of the traditional disciplines (such as electronics), or to cross boundaries and move into emerging areas like biomedical engineering. Many engineers later move into management or other problem-solving professions like medicine and law, which use similar ways of thinking.

If you think you might be interested in engineering, of course we'd be delighted to get your application for Electronic Engineering or one of the cognate subjects at York. You can find out more here
