Biography

Ruth has always loved singing and was the winner in the Novice Class at the Bedford Music Festival in 1973/1974.

From 1971 to 1985 she was a member of the Harrogate Gilbert & Sullivan Society, playing sub-principal roles in 'Pirates of Penzance' and 'Princess Ida'.

She joined Harrogate's Deanery Players in 1986, where her talents brought her lead roles in many shows, including Dick in 'Dick Whittington', Eliza in 'My Fair Lady' and Dolly in 'Hello Dolly'.

In the 1995/1996 Kamamica productions, Ruth played Svetlana in 'Chess' and Sheila in 'A Chorus Line'.

She took part in the 1995 BBC Songs of Praise Pilgrimage tour of Israel and, in the same year, gave her first solo Christmas Carol Service, in Harrogate, and began accepting professional engagements.

Since then, she has performed at Weddings, Fundraising Concerts, Church Inauguration Services and in Residential and Nursing Homes in the UK and has performed at Spiritual Festivals in Germany.

In 1998, bombarded by requests for tapes and CD's, Ruth decided to work with guitarist Richard Sykes. Together they released a cassette, 'Love - The First Virtue', with profits donated to the charity WaterAid.

This was followed by the CD's 'Songs of Patience, Hope and Gentleness' (2000) and 'I Dream Of The Rain' (2001).

Ruth recently released her first solo CD, 'Droplets', a mix of songs loved by all. The CD contains favourites such as 'Colours of the Wind' and 'White Cliffs of Dover' as well as the award-winning 'Drop In The Ocean', a song Ruth feels could have been written especially for the charity most dear to her heart, WaterAid.
